Viewing Boston and the surrounding area through tourist's eyes.

Thanks for hanging in there with me. I haven't had time to post, but I did update the "Coming Attraction" section of my blog. Check it out when you get a change and feel free to add to it via comments.

About the Tourist

Welcome to my blog, my name is Lauren. Okay, I know that is corny, but I couldn't think of a better way to begin this (if I come up with one I promise I will change it). I am currently a graduate student studying international public relations. However, I worked for three years in the nonprofit sector before returning to school.

I love to travel, but don't get to do it nearly enough (see About Playing Tourist for more). Overall I am pretty low-key. When I am not studying or working as a lifeguard/swim instructor, I am relaxing with a good book, TV show/movie, ballroom dancing or hanging with friends. I also enjoy experiencing new things and will try ALMOST anything once - though committing crimes and jumping out of non-crashing planes are out of the question - there is something thrilling about learning new information (I know I'm a dork and proud of it - deal with it, I do)

I must confess that I never saw myself as one to write a blog. Granted, I have no idea if there are specific characteristics to bloggers - I doubt it, since blog topics and styles are so varied, but one never knows. Anyway, truth be told this is actually the second blog I have started - the first consisted of a single post (a class assignment) and I recently deleted it. (If anyone wants to see it, let me know and I will include the post here). Honestly, this blog is getting started because of a class assignment as well. However, as I have thought about what I am going to include in Playing Tourist I find myself enthusiastic about the blog's potential.

I sincerely hope that you enjoy reading about my time exploring Boston. It is a city I fell in love with (in the POURING rain) when I first visited over 10 years ago, and it is a city I still enjoy after a year-and-a-half of living here. However, I know I am by no means an expert on all the tourist attractions (and not-so tourist attractions) in the city. I welcome your thoughts and input on locations or experiences to include as well as your thoughts on the places I have been. I always say experiences are more fun when shared with others, and my journey into the blogosphere is no exception.
